Ideally, marketplace commerce aims for the greatest benefit of the greatest number of people and businesses. That aim is driven by intention: good vs bad, reasoned vs irrational, selfish vs selfless.
Ideally, commerce leaves no one “left behind”, made no worse for the engine’s running, but that too is an ideal.
Ideally everyone is made the better for commerce though not necessarily by virtue of being given a free ride.
Ideally the engine of commerce doesn’t not run through your forest if that is your wish, though again that is an ideal.
Commerce is the people’s business.
